Young Bird Sickness – it’s gut wrenching when you walk in the loft and see something wrong, and we regularly receive calls from customers asking how they can try prevent, and treat if their team does get infected.

I’m a lucky girl, I’ve been a pigeon fancier for a lot of years, and in my ‘phone book I have the direct numbers of the best pigeon fanciers worldwide … so, I always say “if I don’t know the answer, I know someone who will”.

I asked champion flyer Krzysztof Szkolny the owner of Gold Bird, what he would recommend.  Here’s his advice:

To try prevent, as soon as youngsters are weaned, get them on a weekly system:-

2 days/week on the corn :

“Gold Dust” – clears the impurities and maintains a clean respiratory system

“Oregano 500” – anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and great for the digestive system

“Bioherb” – lactic acid fermentation stabilizes the natural microflora of the gastrointestinal tract and promotes increased absorption of nutrients

All essential for prevention, and especially if your team is infected.

In the water, Krzysztof recommends

“GPSol” – electrolytes – pigeons will be dehydrated and lacking in nutrients

“Entero Extra” – probiotic supplement that restores the intestinal flora

“Colikill” – balances ph level of the water

All of this together gives a really good protection of the digestive system, and should help your birds recover.  It’s also very important, if they are infected, that they only have a light feed, such as diet/depurative.
